Kitsch

Kitsch meaning  an inferior, tasteless copy to created new style of art. In Malaysia, we can see many of  architecture are kitsch. This maybe is because Malaysia has been long reign by other country such as Britain, Portugal. So, architecture of Malaysia has influence from the long reign.For example show in below picture, we can see that the hotel design with roman pillar.

The Arnofini Portrait

The painting is known as “The Arnolfini Portrait”. This artwork is painting by Jan Van Eyck’s and created in 1434 using oil-glazing.The size of The Arnolfini Portrait is among 82.2cm × 60cm. It was located in a Flemish bedchamber.The purpose of “The Arnolfini Portrait” was to record the marriage. The artist intention is unclear, maybe he wants to showing a legal record that the marriage took place.

Giovanni Arnolfini and Giovanna Cenami is the main character in “The Arnolfini Portrait”. Giovanni Arnolfini is Giovanna Cenami husband. He was hold his wife with his left hand and stand left hand side while holds his right hand in the air. Giovanna Cenami is put her right hand into husband’s left and another hand holding up her full-skirted dress. She is stand at right beside the Arnolfini. The convex mirror reflects two people beside at the door. One of them maybe is Van Eyck because upside the convex mirror have an ornate Latin signature. It translates as 'Jan van Eyck was here 1434' which suggests he was a witness to the wedding.

 I choose this artwork for my 2nd assignment because it have a lot of mystery things to study. Almost all things in "The Arnolfini Portrait" have it own meaning.So, it made me interest to find out more and more of the mystery.

THE BOOK OF THE DEAD

 

The book of the dead is a  ancient Egyptian funerary text ancient Egyptian funerary text. From this artwork, it shows the scribe Hunefer's heart being weighed on the scale of Maat against the feather of truth, by the jackal-headed Anubis. The Ibis-headed Thoth is scribe of the gods. He job is to records the result. If heart is lighter than the feather, Hunefer is allowed to pass into the afterlife. If not, he is eaten by the waiting the deadly crocodile, lion or hippopotamus.

Musuem Telekon

Muzium Telekon malaysia is a Neo-Classical Greek architecture and the 1st interactive museum in malaysia.The buiding is located in Jalam Gereja, Kuala Lumpur. Before that, it was  the Central Battery Manual Telephone Exchange in 1928. Later, the building was intended to knock down to construct a new 26-storey office complex, but the then Prime Minister suggest to maintain it because the building have it own history. Sunway pyramid

Sunway pyramid located in Bandar Sunway, petaling jaya. It is a shopping mall with a designs of egyptian-inspired pyramid.There have a big lion as a standing guard at the entrance.The purpose of this design, is to attract the customer. This is the 1st pyramid shopping in Malaysia, so it is special for surrounding people. Inside Sunway Pyramid shopping mall, there is a unique and beautiful interior design. Segi University College

 From the Segi University College, we can see that it is a roman style building.Ionic columns are applied to this building. This make the building become more beautiful and attractive. Segi University College try to created a comfortable and relax university life to their student. So that student will be more enjoy and creativity in their study.

We also can found some sculptureIn in  Segi College. It show strongly influence by Greek culture. The purpose is to decorate so the building will become more beautiful and classical.

History Of Art and Design (Q & A time)

1.） What do you want from the course?
      From this subject, I can more understanding from the past, what artist intention and their artwork.

2.） What do you want to do in coming 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?
      In the coming 5 years. I juz new in design. So, i will try my hard to do a perfect design.
      After 10 years, I will try my best to earn more and more money.
      So that 20 years later, I can open my 1st own shop.

3.） What do you hope to get from this particular classes?
      I wish I can learn a lot of  knowledge and skills besides gain experiences from this course.

4.） Is history Art and Design necessary do you think for longer goal?
      I can learn knowledge from history of art and design.

Ai Weiwei  is a Chinese artist. He is active in architecture, curating, photography, film, and social and cultural criticism.He also is a artistic consultant on the Beijing National Stadium for the 2008 Olympics.
